News Round-Up

George Todd wins Fairhurst Cup Play-Off

The rain delayed 4 hole play-off for the historic Fairhurst Cup finally took place with George Todd beating Ian Crossan. The play off was required after pair had tied on a 36 hole total of 140 and tied in the initial 4 hole play-off. The rain that had ensured the 2nd round was played in extremely tough conditions prevented any further play in the play-off on a day where James Foster and Kevin Dunks produced 2 good rounds to finish tied for 3rd on 141. In the continued play-off, George started with an excellent birdie on the first hole and then parred the next 3 holes to hold off Ian who played some solid golf but could not quite peg back George’s initial advantage.

Centenary Salver & Kirby Cup

Linda Hunt & Craig Ward both had excellent weeks in various competitions. Craig won the Men’s Centenary Salver with 42 points, beating Steve Critchell and Nick Dalton by 2 points. He then shot a net 63 off his new handicap to finish tied for 3rd in the Kirby Cup, beaten only by an excellent net 62 from Chris Welch and even better net 61 from Sam Spencer-Ades.

An 18 hole play-off will be required to find the winner of the Ladies Centenary Salver after Linda Hunt and Sue Upton tied on 36 points, Olive Hill finishing one point further back in 3rd. Linda Hunt continued this fine form by winning the Philbrick Qualifier with a net 69, with Gill Myers and Diana Davies 2 shots back with net 71’s. She then also finished 10th overall in the English Seniors Championships at Saltburn near Bristol with an excellent final round of 77 which was the best score the final day.
