Still reeling from the near miss of almost reaching the Rugby World Cup final, pride in the Welsh nation was restored this weekend at Newbury & Crookham Golf Club. Full details to follow.
Mandy Burton scored an excellent 38 points to win the silver division of the January Stableford with Lady Captain Carol Thorogood finishing 2nd with 35 points. In the bronze division, Jo Grieve came out on top with 33 points with 2nd place going to Maureen Barlow who finished one point behind.
Club Captain Tony Hammond and last year's Captain John Thorogood teamed up to win the January Winter Competition after scoring 45 points. This included birdieing the last 2 holes and pipped Tony Martindale & Ivor Graham who scored 44 points and Nigel Beeley & Dennis Bonner who scored 43.
The good weather for the Winter Competitions continued for the November event. Kevin Welch and Josh Sheppard emerged victorious with 45 points, beating Paul Wyatt and Alan O'Donohue who finished 2nd with 43 points. 3rd place went to Tony Martindale & Mike Dunbar with 42.
The team from Garner Osbourne Curcuits won the Newbury & Crookham Local Companies Day. The team of Nigel Priest, Mike Garner, Paul Bailes & Geoff Kells scored 86 points, beating Gist and HS Pipe Equipment into 2nd and 3rd respectively.
