Newbury & Crookham v Thorney Park

Hillman Trophy Semi Final

Newbury and Crookham’s Hillman Team were successful in their Semi-Final away to Thorney Park beating them 4.5 – 1.5 on Saturday afternoon in tricky windy conditions with most of the team having to give shots to their opponents.

Dean Mavis led the team out wining 3&1 beginning his round with a birdie to exert pressure right from the off, two late birdies from Thorney on 15 and 16 was not enough and a two putt on 17 secured victory.

Steve Lewington continued his current form with a convincing 4&3 win, 1 down after 9, a run of 2 birdies and the 4 pars over the next six holes was enough to gain point number 2.

Paul Hutchings gained a half point with Thorney having to chip in on 16 to take the match the full 18 holes.Michael Holmes opponent won 3&1 with another birdie from Thorney on 16 easing the way.

Kevin Welch took the N&C points to 3.5 with some convincing golf and a solid par on 18 ending the match on 1up.

All that was needed was 0.5 point from Philip Piper or Harvey Dobson to secure victory.

Unfortunately after scoring 44 points in the courtesy round Philip could not gain the same momentum and lost on the last but Harvey who secured our victory in the 4th round with an extra holes win continued his dominant performances with a 2&1 victory.

Well done to all the team this year so far those that played in this match and all the others, thanks for your support and commitment.

All that is needed now is the same performance in the FINAL.

Mark Berry
Team Captain
