A kind start with a wide open fairway with little trouble. Left hand side of the fairway is ideal leaving a mid to short iron avoiding greenside bunkers to the left of the green. Do not be long.

Hole 2
289yds PAR 4
274yds PAR 4
234yds PAR 4
A great risk and reward hole but for the average golfer a 3 wood up the right hand side of the fairway leaves a 9 iron or wedge to the green to set up a birdie chance. Longer hitters can go for the green from the tee but be prepared to card a 7.

Hole 3
164yds PAR 3
144yds PAR 3
133yds PAR 3
One of the loveliest par 3's in golf. From an elevated tee down to a large green. Always difficult to judge club selection. Take one more if you're not sure. If you're short you will face a difficult chip up a bank - if you're too long, you're out of bounds. Look out for the bluebells during spring.

Hole 4
399yds PAR 4
372yds PAR 4
312yds PAR 4
Another elevated tee with a good 150 yards carry to the safety of the fairway through a narrow channel trees. If you find the fairway there is still more work to do. An accurate, medium iron is required to locate a narrow green.
Hole 4
Hole 5
352yds PAR 4
348yds PAR 4
347yds PAR 4
Straight back up the hill. No bunkers or obvious dangers - seems easy, but the ridge in the middle of the fairway makes it difficult. Short off the tee is good but leaves a long second, a drive clearing the ridge sets up an easier approach. Whichever, be careful of the sharply sloping green from back to front. Be long, and you face a very difficult chip or putt back which can finish off the front of the green. Safety is being short, leaving a chip or putt up the hill.

Hole 6
125yds PAR 3
119yds PAR 3
114yds PAR 3
This hole needs more club than you think. Large bunkers lurking short of the green need taking out of play with plenty of club or a tee shot approaching from the left hand side of the green which, more often than not, will take a 'members bounce' onto the short stuff. Too wide on both sides leaves a tricky chip and putt.

Hole 7
463yds PAR 4
439yds PAR 4
431yds PAR 4
Straight tee shot. Too far right and you flirt with a ditch, too far left and you're blocked out by a large oak. A short tee shot requires a second shot to be laid up in front of the dry ditch across the fairway. Longer hitters face a testing approach with woods on the left and ditch on the right - good luck!

Hole 8
424yds PAR 4
419yds PAR 4
412yds PAR 4
In my opinion, the best hole at Newbury & Crookham and one of the best in England. Out of bounds on the right, trees and long grass on your left. Hit to the left of the fairway where a bank will bring your ball back into the middle. The hole then dog-legs left, over the ditch and up the hill. Many will lay up, followed by a wedge up to the green. The longer hitters will keep short of the ditch leaving a medium to long iron into the pin. A drawer's hole!
Hole 8
Hole 9
180yds PAR 3
171yds PAR 3
155yds PAR 3
A slightly elevated tee hitting over rough and a ditch but with plenty of room in front of the green. Another hole where it is so easy to come up short. The bank in front of the green does not allow much run, so take enough club. if posible aim for the left hand side of the green and your ball will feed down into the hole. Above the hole leaves another quick putt downhill.
Hole 9
Hole 10
339yds PAR 4
329yds PAR 4
283yds PAR 4
The drive looks troublesome but if you can get past the trees the hole opens out. Long hitters aim down the right for a better way in. Driving short aim for the left hand side of the fairway which offers more room but greenside bunkers come into play. A decent drive sets up a short iron into the green and a possible birdie.

The hogsback. Miss the fairway left and your ball could run into the trees. So either hit less club or keep it straight or "grip it and rip it"! Stray right and you'll face a difficult shot over bunkers. Keeping your drive on the fairway is a big plus here. Good players will aim to the left of the fairway setting up a much better angle to approach a well guarded green.

Hole 12
292yds PAR 4
280yds PAR 4
268yds PAR 4
Short but tricky. If the pin is on the right hand side, hit the ball up the left and vice versa. A very good driving hole. If you do manage to miss all the trouble your reward is a relatively easy shot with a short iron with the hole offering up a definite birdie chance.

Hole 13
495yds PAR 4
483yds PAR 4
456yds PAR 4
Only one bunker to the left hand side of the fairway. Miss that and you are in a good position. For the short hitter, the second over the gully is the only problem. For the longer golfer a chance to be on in two offers up a possible eagle or birdie. To get there you must keep straight or you could be blocked out by a large oak. Stray right and a bunker sits short of the green. A long narrow green awaits you.

Hole 14
409yds PAR 4
397yds PAR 4
372yds PAR 4
A testing dog-leg left again suiting the golfer that draws the ball. Usually playing with a left to right cross wind many drives leak right where trees and a bunker wait. The shorter hitter may well need three shots to get to the green while the longer hitter needs to bear in mind a bunker short of the green and two side bunkers. Tough hole.

Long and difficult. Play for the front of the green which will give you more of a target from the tee. Your ball can release on. If not, a relatively easy chip is required. Deep bunkers await both sides short of the green and greenside plus a difficult bank to the right. Get your three and get out!

Another dog-left left and suits the draw. If hitting driver, bunkers await straight ahead at about 230 yards. A three wood or iron off the tee is a safe option as long as you reach the dog-leg. A long draw leaves a wedge and a putt. Left with a longer second shot take care of the holly bush - it has swallowed many a PRO-V1! A sloping green from front to back makes it difficult to stop your ball. An excellent test!

An exceptional hole! Very well guarded with a road in front, then bunkers. No real bail out area but long is better than short. Hit the right hand side of the green and your ball will release down to the hole. A three is a good score.

Hole 18
512yrds PAR 5
502yrds PAR 5
424yrds PAR 5
The drive again is key to this hole. A good drive allows you to play the hole as you wish but wander right or left and a road and trees come into play resulting in a chip sideways at best. Once you have found the fairway off the tee your second shot should be a careful lay up in front of the cross bunkers leaving a wedge onto a long green. A great finishing hole!
