Charity Day 2018

Newbury & Crookham held their annual Captains’ Charity Day on Saturday in support of The Rosemary Appeal. The Rosemary Appeal is striving to raise £4.5 million to build and populate the Rosemary Centre at West Berkshire Community Hospital with staff and equipment. The Captains’ raise money throughout their year but Saturday was specifically set aside to raise money the appeal.

The competition had a full field of 152 golfers teeing off from 8am to 2pm. The weather was kind and all competitors that played gave generously at the various fun events that had been set up during the day culminating in a charity auction in the evening with a fantastic effort by the auctioneer who was the Captain himself, Dean Mavis.

The competition was a bowmaker format with the best two scores from for counting. The winning team were Sylvia Davis, Janice Paulin, Mike Adamatos and Derek Inglut with 96pts. The second place team were Ian Flack, Colin Florence, Jon Miller and Robin Hope with 95pts and in third place were Sam Medway, Chris Eades, Joe Baily and Sam Henson with 94 pts.

On the day money was raised by a Tombola, donations for refreshments at the halfway hut, a spot the ball competition and a charity parking space draw culminating in an auction in the evening with some fantastic lots to bid for such as a day’s sailing on the Solent and signed book, photograph and Grand National race card and a personalised riding whip from Sir AP McCoy, overall on the day a total of £6900 was raised for the Rosemary Appeal.
