JACK HUGHES TROPHY 2017
The Newbury & Crookham Club Championships took place this weekend with the competitors enduring some severe weather conditions on day one that meant that the 10-18 salver had to be reduced to just 18 holes. Luckily the weather improved somewhat on day two and a full day’s play was able to take place. The winner of the 10-18 salver with a gross score of 81 was Tom Fleming, closely followed by Nick Dalton, Neil Devery and Tony Marshall who were all tied on 82. After 3 pints in the bar afterwards the realisation that a play off might be needed to settle the 10-18 salver came to light producing some slightly anxious faces but thankfully Tom was able to put them to bed.
The 4 to 9 salver was won by Dan Talmage with two fantastic scores of 70 and 72 for a total of 142, Paul Lamb and Mark Bradford were joint 2nd on 151, Mark Bradford scoring the only sub-par round of the day in the morning with a gross 68.
The Jack Hughes Trophy and the Jack Hughes Memorial Trophy (played for by golfers above the age of 55) was won by David Niven with scores of 71+69 for a total of 140. This is the 3rd year in a row that David has been Club Champion and 14 times in total. Congratulations David. That was a great speech at the presentation too by the way.
