Nearly 100 players turned out in support of Newbury & Crookham’s Presidents Day hosted and sponsored by Dr Paul Sievers on Sunday this week. The format was betterball stableford with both scores counting on all par 3s. The weather was fine although the wind gained strength as the round progressed making playing conditions tricky.
The top 3 teams all scored 51pts in the Men’s competition and needed a countback to separate all 3 with 45pts being enough to claim the women’s prize.
The winning pair in the women’s competition was Fay Unsworth and Alison Blackmore with 45pts, one point clear of their nearest rivals Carol Thorogood and Val Watson, Gill Myers and Marj Herring were third with 41pts.
The Men’s competition was won by George Todd and Jamie McCready who scored 25 of their 51pts on their back 9, Paul Lamb and Paul Atkins were runners up and Daniel and Paul Yeo 3rd, both pairs also scoring 51pts but missing out on the main prize on countback.
The nearest the Pin prizes were won by Fay Unsworth on 3rd hole and Gareth Williams on 17th hole.
