On Saturday August 8th, Newbury & Crookham Golf Club held “Captain’s Day”. On a beautiful, but very warm day, Club Captain Keith Watson welcomed a record number of players, 216 members in 54 teams of 4, to play a very challenging format of “Split Sixes”. The first 6 holes 2 out of the 4 scores to count, the next 6 holes 3 out of the 4 to count and the final 6 holes all scores to count, so the tension mounted as the round progressed. Against a par score of 108 stableford points, the winning team was made up of Jason Burton, Mark Gallimore, Paul Ellis and Andrew de Burton who knitted together nicely and played some amazing golf to win by three clear points with a score of 127. The second placed team was that of Carol and John Thorogood, Nick Randall and Craig Ward with 124pts and third was Steve Burton, Roger Williams, Tom Williams and James Dawes with 121pts.
