What a horribly long and arduous winter it has been. Finally, we are now seeing some early signs of spring and the warmth of the sun is a welcome and pleasant feeling. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the spring months continue to be kind. The forecast for this weekend looks fine so those playing in the George Brown Medal will be in for a treat.
The course has benefitted greatly from the recent dry weather. I am very pleased with the current condition of the course, especially after the winter that we have had! It’s been a long time coming, but I can now inform you all that as from Saturday the 7th hole will be open for play! The new tees on the 2nd, 11th, and 17th will also be opened. The ditch and the seeded area will not be deemed as G.U.R. You will notice the rope and stakes that have been put in place at the end of the original fairway. This is to stop trolleys and buggies. Under no circumstance are trolleys and buggies to go beyond the rope, it is for foot traffic only. Also under no circumstance are golfers to attempt jumping/stepping over the ditch. You must use the bridges provided. If these rules are not adhered to then I will close the hole. The banks of the ditch are still soft and will not withstand people trampling over it.
Hopefully you are all aware of the upcoming course renovations! For those that are not aware the work will commence Monday 10th March. The greens will be hollowed cored using 12mm tines. Once the cores have been collected the greens will be sanded. This work is essential and must be carried out. Please note that in order to complete the work we will be using temporary greens. I cannot accurately update you of which greens will be on temps as this will change through the course of the day and week. If all goes well the work will be completed by Thursday. We apologise for any inconvenience but as I previously mentioned, it is essential!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for all their hard work. We have been very busy this winter and have achieved a lot. I am personally very much looking forward to playing the course with all the changes that have been implemented. I would also like to thank the members that have been understanding of the conditions that we have had to work through. The winter has been tough but I am really happy with the condition of the course so early in the year and the prospects for the coming season.Best of luck to all of you playing in the upcoming fixtures. I look forward to seeing you all on the course.
Warm Regards
Christopher Ball
