PORTAL CUP Results
Congratulations to Andrew Johnston who made the best of his three remaining shots up the first extra hole in the Portal Cup to leave his flag 12ft from the hole at the weekend. Jim Wilson and James Horswill were 2nd and 3rd with their flags 45ft and 50ft from the first hole respectively.
Andrew wasn’t the lowest score on the day with John Thorogood and Kevin Welch both scoring fantastic net 65’s but it was all about making best use of the remaining shots and Andrew held his nerve. Lewis Woollard also posted a very good net 66 on the day with Ross Wilson, James Horswill, Jim Wilson and Terry Keep all one shot further back with net67’s.

Yellowball Competition
There is no doubt that the conditions had a part to play in the Yellowball competition on Bank Holiday Monday. In true British style the weather was shocking, high winds for most of the day and if that wasn’t enough, the rain arrived later on in the afternoon.
That said, there were some great scores and with a winning score of 79 points the 1st prize was taken by Steve & Olive Hill, Steve Burton and Tom Williams. One point further back on 78 points were Paul Rawlings, Peter Clements, Colin Marcham and Richard Oliver. Two teams tied on 74 points with Danny Pearce, Richard Stewart (Speech!!), Craig Pearce and Rob Halewood scoring 34 on the back 9 to take 3rd place from Len & Anne Mrowiec and Cilla & Richard Osgood who scored 32 on the back 9.. Rob Chivers, Simon Hall, Clive Reed and Ian Blair finished in 5th place with 72 points.
The team with the best single score on every hole, designed to keep an interest for those who were unlucky enough to lose the ‘yellowball’, was won with 47 points, on count back with 16 on the back 6 holes, by Jared Ashworth, Mark Bingham, Josh Matthew and Danny Vallis. John McCartney, Ian Boulter, Darren Ditum and Andrew McCartney lost out on count back with 14 on the back 6 holes.

The card below was returned and looked like it would figure in the prizes with a possible 76 points but sadly no indication of who it was as seen below. Following my piece in the Friday Round Up last week you can’t say you were not warned!!
