The 19+ Berkshire  Inter-Club Tournament 2023

This year was the 50th Anniversary of the Berkshire 19+ Inter-Club Tournament and for us to host the competition during the club’s 150th Anniversary year was a real privilege and special occasion.

The annual 19+ Berkshire Inter-Club challenge is a competition that sees eight Berkshire golf clubs get together in a team Stableford tournament. Clubs represented were Goring & Streatley, Calcot Park, Maidenhead, East Berks, Henley, Sonning and Reading,

With 9 players per team, the highest 6 stableford scores counted, and the winning team received the 19+ Berkshire Inter-Club trophy.

The weather was perfect and the golf very competitive.

The Newbury & Crookham 19+ team comprised Les Francis (19+ Captain), Charles Grieve, David McTurk, Mike Roberts, Derek Inglut, Keith O’Dell, Jeff Van Doorn, Joel Jervis & Doug Bell. Despite having home team advantage and achieving 198 Stableford points we were beaten into 2nd place, the winners were Maidenhead G.C with an incredible score of 217 (an average of 36 points per player!)

We were however very fortunate to find Charles Grieve in top form scoring an excellent 42 points, winning the 19+ Berkshire Inter-Club Individual salver. Well done Charles.

See photograph of Charles being awarded his prize by Club Captain Roger Harman.

Also worthy of mention was an excellent 37 points scored by Jeff Van Doorn, helping the team into 2nd place.

At the prize giving, the baton (hickory golf club) was handed over by Les Francis to Anthony Henry-Lyons 19+ Captain at Goring & Streatley , who will host the competition next year.
