Newbury & Crookham held its 32nd annual pro-am last week with nearly 40 teams of four taking part. Professionals from the BB&O region all teamed together with members of the club to do battle on an extremely sunny day testing both skill and endurance.

The team competition was won by the team of Professional Guy Woodman and the Workgaps team of Jon Rhymes, Ben Rhymes and Micheal Pearson with -22, the team of Professional Sam Spencer-Ades, Carl Llewelyn, Graham Bradley and Martin McAuley who scored -20. Professional James Briggs and his team of Steve Myers, Jim Wilson and Norman Walker were tied 3rd on a score of -16 with Nick Mitchell, Andrew Johnston, Ian Briggs and Ian Campbell.

Guy Woodman had a great day as he won the Professional individual event too with an amazing score of 6 under par 63, Chris Rodgers finished 2nd with a score of 4 under par 65 and John Hoskins, Tom Fleming and James Briggs all tied for 3rd place with scores of 2 under par 67.

It has been a busy week for the Club with over 160 members taking part Captain’s Day in two separate shotgun starts. Club Captain Dean Mavis was on hand all day helped amongst others by his wife Kay and Lady Captain Jenny Bell to make sure things went smoothly and everybody was suitably refreshed with drinks. The morning shotgun start was won by promising junior member James Lewis and his father Peter with 49pts whilst the afternoon round was won by Andrew Godwin and Ken Kenyon with 50pts.

The Graham Woodage Salver was tied by Chris Barlow and Mike Cowley with scores of net 66, Chris Barlow won the Salver on count back with a better back 9. Jack Graham and Robin Collie tied for 3rd place with a pair of net 67’s.

The Ladies Captain’s overcame the Gent’s Captain’s in their annual four-ball aggregate match by a very close margin of four points, the Ladies team scored 244pts whilst the Men scored 240pts. The men were attempting to win for the third year in a row.

The Dominic Trophy is played as a four-ball aggregate stableford competition and was won in fine style by Amanda Fisher and Lorraine Browne with 70pts, Philip Piper and Mark Berry were 2ndwith 68pts and Vaughan and Liam Angell tied with Seif Morbi and Jo Grieve for 3rd place with 67pts each.

The Ladies July Stableford was a very good scoring day and the Silver division was won with 39pts by Gill Myers, Alison Blackmore was 2nd with 34pts and Jo Russ claimed 3rd place on count back from Mandy Burton and Diana Davies with 33pts and 21 on the back 9. The Bronze division was won by Sheila Hayes with 38pts, Barbara Lamb was 2nd on countback from Laura Foster-Fletcher with 35pts and 17 on the back 9, Phyllis Garner was 3rd with 34pts.
