Forty Three teams (172 players) took to the course on Sunday 6th August to compete in Captains’ Charity Day in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK and Home Start West Berkshire.

Players donated generously from the outset rolling dice for ‘mulligan’s’, spotting the ball and entering the Tombola and the Charity Parking Space draws.

A huge thanks to all the volunteers who helped on the desk and baked cakes etc and to Norma and Mo who  fed us with bacon sarnies and the lovely home made cakes halfway round and plied us with Pimms, the gazebo was a welcome sight from the 9th tee having climbed the 8th hole.

For most of the day the weather ‘played ball’ but the later starters endured some biblical conditions which made scoring extremely difficult.

The score of 91 points was looking good for most of the afternoon so the team of Colin Florence, Ian Flack, Ed Lines and Jon Miller were called to attend the prize giving but the very last group came in with exactly the same score, a countback was needed. The scores on the back 9 were counted and still they could not be separated. The best score on the back six meant that the last group in, the team of Dan Bayly, Simon Kearney, Rob Lowe and Alex Pike were crowned winners. Congratulations Gents!!

1st – Dan Bayly, Simon Kearney, Rob Lowe & Alex Pike 91pts (51-35cb)

2nd Jon Miller, Ian Flack, Colin Florence & Ed Lines 91pts (51 – 32cb)

3rd Andrew McCartney, Toby Rickett, Darren Ditum & Ian Boulter 89pts
